Tissues in Plants and Animals biology notes for 9

1. Tissue is a group of cells having similar origin, structure& function. Study of tissues is called Histology 2. In unicellular organism (Amoeba) single cell performs all basic functions, whereas in multi-cellular organisms (Plants and Animals) shows division of labor as Plant tissue & Animal tissues. 3 . Plant tissues are two types : Meristems & Permanent tissues. 4. Meristems: The Meristems are the tissues having the power of cell division. It is found on those region of the plant which grows. 5. Types of Meristems; 1. The Apical meristems – It is present at the growing tip of the stem and roots and increases the length. 2. The lateral meristems - present at the lateral side of stem anf root (cambium) and increases the girth. 3. The intercalary meristems - present at internodes or base of the leaves and increases the length between the nodes. ( Please refer to Fig. 6.2: location of meristems in plant body , NCERT Book Page- 69). 26. Perman

Fundamental Unit of Life CELL class 8th and 9th

Chapter 8 CELL — STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS for class 8 The basic structural and functional unit of an organism The basic structural and functional unit of an organism is called cell. Cells are like bricks that are assembled to make a building. Similarly, cells are assembled to make the body of every organism. This is why cell are called the basic structural and functional unit of an organism. Found on kidcourses.com Discovery of cell: Robert Hooke in 1665 observed slices of cork (a part of the bark of a tree) under a simple magnifying device. He Robert Hooke observed under a microscope there are many partitioned boxes or compartments like a honeycomb. Hooke coined the term ‘cell’ for each box. A hen’s egg can be seen easily. Is it a cell or a group of cells? It is a single cell. A white blood cell (WBC) in human blood is another example of a single cell. How do scientists observe and study the living cells? Scientists used microscopes w
